If you ask prospective learner drivers what matters most to them when looking for an instructor, and what qualities and characteristics that instructor should have, you would get roughly the following answers:
- The lessons should be as cheap as possible.
- The instructor should get you through the practical driving test as fast as possible and with as few lessons as possible.
- The instructor should respond to your individual needs and always be friendly and funny.
- A great driving-school car, perhaps with a bit of luxury and horsepower.
- The instructor should fit around your diary and ideally pick you up at your front door.
- And of course they should be competent and know their trade.

Every learner driver wants to take their lessons with the best driving instructor in Switzerland. But naming that person is, as already mentioned, very difficult. There are various rankings that single out the best instructor, but you should not pay them much attention or place much trust in them. Why?
- An instructor and the quality of their work are rated by their pupils. In most cases those pupils have had only one instructor, so they cannot compare two or more instructors with one another.
- So if the instructor matches their individual expectations, gets on well with the pupil and guides them quickly through the practical driving test at the first attempt, every pupil is understandably delighted and rock-solid in their conviction that their own instructor is the best.
But that judgement and that rating are highly subjective and cannot be transferred to other learner drivers. In the same way, a situation where the chemistry did not work does not automatically mean that the instructor is bad and does not know their trade.
So the question «who is the best driving instructor in Switzerland?» can only be answered up to a point. And perhaps it does not matter at all. What matters is that almost all driving instructors in Switzerland know their trade well and will train you professionally into a good driver. Of course there are a few black sheep, as there are almost everywhere. The most important thing is that you feel safe and comfortable with your instructor and that you enjoy driving. If that is the case, you can assume that you have found the best driving instructor – at least for you.
